Many glorious long beaches in the Eastern Algarve lie on a chain of Barrier Islands within the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve with access by ferry, train or on foot. East of the Ria Formosa, the beaches lie on the mainland and have easy vehicle access. Many of these beaches have been awarded EU Blue Flag and boast of the warmest water in Portugal.
Your closest market town is São Brás, just a 15 minute walk, or 5 minutes by car, has a central square surrounded by cafes and small streets. It is convenient for a variety of shops, restaurants, museums, ruins and other amenities. The town is surrounded by a ring of hills that look out onto the sea and the mountains. Low white houses, typical of popular architecture stand alongside more substantial buildings, their facades decorated with tiles, ornate stonework and cast iron verandas.
